He Who Loved Me First

The Judge is put on trial, or so we believe.

Our problems are His fault, or so we claim.

Our hearts are dark; our eyes are blind.

We cast the Ruler on the stand within our minds.

When problems arise, He bears our blame.

When paradise abounds, He is forgotten.

We bless Him and curse Him—the God of Heaven.

We wander in darkness; He follows us there.

He sends us His Son, who has no home.

He gives His life; we give Him a cross.

He gives us life; we cause Him to suffer.

He takes our sins; He is forsaken.

He gave me His word when I was astray.

He showed me great love; I pushed Him away.

Still He pursued me, to show me the Way.

Love irresistible—God, save me today.

I once rejected Him, but now I see.

I was chained; He set me free.

From endless separation to a home in Heaven—

I love Him, because He first loved me.
