-- Looking Down --
Looking down, I stumble as darkness surrounds me.
My hands shake; my heart races; I cannot see.
The path I chose was a noble one—
or so I thought.
It shouted of fame, of glory, of pleasure,
yet left me with pain and worry without measure.
As the path unravels, the darkness sinks deeper;
my soul comes undone.
The walls of night close in, crushing my heart.
Light is swallowed up—
and the shudder of darkness fractures my soul.
I fall down.
The path I chose was never noble,
but for my own name.
I desired my treasure, my glory,
to spend as I pleased.
Now silence settles over the ruins of my pride.
Broken, I surrender.
-- Looking Up --
Suddenly, upward I look; a Light pierces the sky.
The Light is faint, but the longer I gaze,
the stronger it grows.
Pure and lovely, it fills my sight.
A ray of heat flashes through my frozen heart.
This Light calls out to me,
and a seed of hope is planted within.
His voice—rolling like the sound of thunder—
is Yahweh Himself.
“Look behind you,” He commands—
as darkness flees from His glory.
-- Looking Behind --
Dazed, I obey and look behind me.
In the distance shines another Light, unlike the first.
It glows blood-red, veiled in sorrow—
the Savior on the cross.
As I gaze, pain ignites within my soul.
A weight of shame,
too heavy to bear,
presses me to the ground.
Thunder roars in the night sky.
I collapse as shadows deepen within my spirit.
My sins have nailed Him to the tree.
“Look at My Son.”
Once again, I set my gaze upon the cross.
Then something strange begins to stir within me.
This weight of pain transforms
into a weight of redemptive glory.
“He was killed for you, once blind,
so that now you could see.”
A glow of red beams from the cross,
illuminating my path.
This crimson road is now mine to walk.
As I step forward, another Light appears—
a Light called Eternity.
-- Looking Ahead --
This Light—clear as a diamond
and bright as a star—guides the road before me.
Wind rushes through the night.
Another Light descends,
pure as crystal, graceful as a dove.
Then a second follows, sharp as a sword.
The first Light—the Spirit—
dwells within me.
The second Light—God’s Word—
guides my path to Eternity.
Redeemed and filled with joy,
I hear my Father proclaim to me:
“Look above to your Father,
behind to your Savior,
ahead to your Home—
and you will be safely guided
through this journey.”
And so I rise—eyes lifted, heart restored—
and walk the road that leads to Light everlasting.
